Prefecture Music supports musicians, composers, and sound artists by assisting in the creation, presentation, documentation, and understanding of their work.
Along with traditional concert venues, Prefecture Music presents site-responsive works in various locations. These presentations range from urban public spaces such as historic train stations to remote rural locations such as abandoned water cisterns and nuclear cooling towers. In taking music out of its traditional sphere we hope to shift audience expectations, allowing new experiential possibilities in sound and physical space.
Prefecture supports artists with the development and documentation of new work. This may be in the form of the traditional studio recordings released in a variety of formats, but also may include high quality audio, video, and photo documentation of site-responsive works, especially those that are not accessible to a live audience.
